DS FITNESS is a multi-disciplinary personal training, semi-private, and small group fitness studio run by husband and wife team, Dan and Sabra Caron. We understand and appreciate that everyone has unique goals be it to lose body fat, enhance athletic performance, de-stress, improve your bone density or lower your blood pressure. Therefore, our mission as trainers is to adapt and tailor our programs according to our clients' individual health and fitness objectives. A session may include boxing/kickboxing techniques, barre, dumbbells, barbell lifts, stability ball core work, kettlebells, TRX-suspension training, TRX-RIP training and various other training tools. We stand by the adage that abs are made in the kitchen so we provide nutritional coaching based on the Precision Nutrition System. Clients can expect goal based training programs and an integrated approach to body composition transformation. ABOUT DAN

Dan's passion for fitness started at a young age. As a youth, he trained in Shorin Jiu Ryu karate, Japenese Jiu Jitsu, and played competitive tennis, soccer and baseball. At 19, he decided to try boxing and was hooked from the beginning by the challenge of stamina and strength that boxing presented. 

Through training at Atlas Boxing, he discovered the Hookup Muay Thai club where he became a muay thai fanatic, enjoying the science of 8 limbs, in which you are able to strike with the hands, elbows, knees and shins. Throughout his 50 bout amateur career, he utilized various weight training protocols to keep in battle-ready shape. 

Dan has been a certified personal trainer and boxing/muay thai coach since 2006. He has diversified his training skills by obtaining certifications in Kettlebell, Resist-a-Ball, TRX-suspension/RIP training and is a level 1 Precision Nutrition coach.

ABOUT SABRA

Sabra began dancing at age 5 and her passion for movement was born. Over the years, she studied and performed in ballet, jazz, musical theatre, contemporary, African, Indian and Middle-Eastern dance techniques. After attending Claude Watson School for the Arts and York University as a dance major, she co-founded Urvieves Dance Company in 2007 with two school mates and performed at various Toronto events including Nuit Blanche and Masal Masti Mehndi.

After 20 years in the dance field, Sabra developed some injuries that were really impeding her performance abilities. After lots of physiotherapy and chiropractic treatment she decided to try strength training and barre workouts as a means of mending her muscular imbalances. This enhanced the quality of her dancing so much that she felt compelled to turn her positive experience into her passion for helping people.

In 2007, Sabra became CanFitPro certified as a personal trainer and fitness instructor. Since then she has enhanced her skills and knowledge through courses and certifications pertaining to Women and Exercise, Pre and Post Natal Fitness, the BOSU, Sustainable Changes in Eating Habits, Active Aging, Eat Clean Foundations, Functional Movement Assessments, the Booty-Barre, and Thai-massage Therapy.

Every training session will contain elements of postural alignment, balance, core-strength, muscular endurance and will have some component of stretching and/or Thai-massage at the end. As a mom, Sabra has a special interest in working with pre- and post-natal women, as well as the baby boomer population and people with health or physical limitations.

HALLE PURTHER

Halle has been dancing since the age of three, and her love for the art form has only grown since then. A graduate of Earl Haig Secondary School in The Claude Watson Dance Program, she has studied dance genres such as jazz, ballet, contemporary, modern, and acrobatics. She has trained with several Toronto-based choreographers and teachers, studying at The National Ballet School of Canada, and at All That Dance as a member of their advanced competitive team. Halle is currently studying Kinesiology at Queen’s University, which allows her to combine her dance background with her interest in fitness, body strengthening, and injury prevention techniques. Her barre classes are a fusion of ballet and fitness, with an emphasis on alignment and the developing of each individual body type. Always having been passionate about fitness and movement, Halle is excited to share her knowledge and experience as a DS Fitness instructor!

 
 

Classes

K1 Kickboxing
for Adults/Kids/Teens

K1 kickboxing is a style of martial arts that blends the techniques of Boxing, American Kickboxing and Muay Thai. Our classes incorporate skipping, body-weight conditioning drills, offensive and defensive techniques utilizing the fists, knees, shins and feet.

Youth/Teen Program
We offer kickboxing classes for 2 age brackets: 4–6 (45 min class) and
7–15 (1 hour class). Benefits of our program include: increased agility, hand eye coordination, focus, discipline, confidence and self-respect.

What to bring for your first class
 We provide boxing gloves and handwraps for new trainees. Men/boys should wear shorts and t-shirt and women/girls should wear shorts/leggings and t-shirt. Bring a towel and prepare to sweat!

DSFit60

This strength and conditioning class incorporates 4 pillars of human movement: 1) Locomotion 2) Level Change 3) Push and Pull 4) Rotation. The 12 station (Round) fast paced circuit class will help you torch calories, increase strength, capacity, and push your muscular endurance. Various training tools include: Dumbbells, Barbells, TRX, RIP Trainer, Medicine Balls, BOSU, Stability balls, Plyometric Ladders and Boxes. Online signup is required 4 hours prior to class start time (space is limited). 

Barre Fusion

This is a total body workout that begins by utilizing the barre as your dance partner. Music plays a large role in Barre training as inspiring tunes will lead you through an energizing and exciting hour. You will sculpt your legs, butt, core, chest, shoulders and arms by using Thera bands, Pilates balls, dumbbells and body weight exercises all while moving through simple ballet positions that anyone can do and enjoy. The second half of this class is a strength and conditioning circuit based on our signature DSFit60 training protocol. 

Mom & Baby Fit 60 

This post natal class combines a variety of circuit based exercises for Mom and Baby to enjoy together. Each class will focus on regaining and restoring your core as well as enhancing your posture, balance, strength, endurance, and flexibility. We use the babies as weight resistance, but we can modify any exercise and welcome them to just sit and play if they prefer that too. This is an opportunity for Mom and Baby to connect through movement in a fun, nurturing, and supportive environment. Types of Specialty Training

TRX

TRX is a suspension trainer. The field of suspension training is a form of resistance training that includes bodyweight exercises in which a variety of multi-planar, compound exercise movements can be performed. These develop strength, balance, flexibility and joint stability simultaneously. TRX is offered as a one on one training option.

Kettlebell

Kettlebell or girya is a cast-iron weight (resembling a cannonball with a handle) used to perform ballistic exercises that combine cardiovascular, strength, and flexibility training. By their nature, typical kettle bell exercises build strength and endurance, particularly in the lower back, legs,  shoulders, and increase grip strength. The basic movements, such as the swing, snatch, and the clean and jerk, engage the entire body at once, and in a way that mimics real world activities. Kettlebell is offered as a one-on-one training option.

Boomer Fitness

This style of training is highly adaptable to your individual needs, and includes three key elements: 1) Weight bearing exercises that are proven to help increase bone density and prevent osteoporosis. 2) Cardiovascular exercise that protect the heart by reducing fat, lowering blood pressure, and decreasing stress. 3) Stretching which helps to increase flexibility, improves your posture, and balance to help prevent falls and fractures.

Pre/Post-Natal 

 Prenatal exercise is one of the greatest gifts you can treat yourself to at a time when you truly need to be kind to your body. Benefits include: core-strengthening to help prevent diastasis recti, alleviating muscle cramps and joint soreness, and helping to prevent gestational diabetes. Post-natal exercise helps you lose baby weight, lowers postpartum depression, and reduces stress allowing you to get a better night's sleep. 

Fit Family Training

 A positive body image for children begins with their parents influence. You and your children* will exercise together and inspire each other to be healthy while promoting a positive outlook on physical activity. Give your family the gift of bonding and connecting in an activity that will make you feel energized, confident and de-stressed.

Thai Massage

Thai Massage, also known as Thai Yoga Massage, is an ancient bodywork therapy that has been taught and practiced in Thailand for over 2,500 years. The healing practice combines gentle rocking, deep stretching, rhythmic compression, shiatsu, reflexology, yoga postures and breath work. Benefits include stress reduction, improved circulation, increased energy, increased flexibility and a calm mind. Thai massage is performed on a floor mat with the client wearing loose and comfortable clothing.

24 HOUR CANCELLATION POLICY – PERSONAL TRAINING
We require 24 hours notice prior to your scheduled appointment to cancel your training session or your package will be charged a session. Rescheduled appointments with less than 24 hours notice must be rescheduled for the same day to save that session. If you cancel less than 24 hours for a semi private session, your partner will be responsible for paying a private rate for that hour. This policy is in place out of respect for our instructors and trainers. All sessions are transferable but not refundable. All sessions expire 6 months from date of purchase.
